Promoting Access to New Technologies for Regenerative Agriculture

I am deeply honored to have participated in the 2nd African Farmers’ Roundtable in Rome, Italy, where we explored the future of regenerative agriculture and discussed ways to enhance access to essential farming technologies across Africa.

As a representative of Rwanda, I shared my experiences as the Chairperson of the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate. I highlighted the regenerative techniques we implement, such as ZAI pits and Agroecological methods, which have significantly improved cassava productivity in my region.

The roundtable was incredibly inspiring, with innovative ideas and stories shared by farmers from across Africa. Whether discussing integrated pest management, agroforestry, or biotechnology, it became clear that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for achieving agricultural sustainability and improving food security. Every approach must be tailored to local realities and agricultural needs.

While we possess the knowledge and skills to promote regenerative agriculture, many challenges remain. Financial barriers, infrastructure gaps, policy limitations, and knowledge constraints continue to hinder the widespread adoption of these technologies.

Our collective message emphasized the importance of:

  • Developing neutral, evidence-based policies focused on results.
  • Increasing investments in research and development, and improving access to tailored financial products, including loans and insurance, for smallholder farmers.

Together, we can reshape the future of agriculture in Africa to be more resilient, sustainable, and equitable.
