On September 25, 2024, experts from the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate, in collaboration with Agriterra Rwanda, conducted a field visit to Nyagatovu Village, Makera Cell, Cyeza Sector, Muhanga District, in the Southern Province. The purpose of the visit was to train farmers in the production of organic fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, and ash solutions, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture.
The event, which brought together local leaders from Makera Cell and Cyeza Sector, as well as Farmer Field School facilitators from various sectors of Muhanga District, was part of the “Acting Now” project. This initiative is funded by Agriterra and implemented by the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate.
In her address to the participants, Mrs. Mukabarinda Mamerque, the Sector Agronomist, and Mrs. Nyirahirwa Clemence, Executive Secretary of Makera Cell, expressed their gratitude to the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate for its dedication to promoting agriculture at multiple levels and its commitment to advancing Climate-Smart Agriculture for improved productivity.
They encouraged the farmers to make full use of the knowledge and skills gained during the training by applying them on their farms and sharing them with fellow farmers. This message was reinforced by Mr. Victor Manariyo, Coordinator of the Acting Now Project at the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate, who reminded the participants that the skills they had acquired were not just for personal use but were meant to be shared with their peers. He emphasized that the Syndicate’s goal is to elevate the lives of Rwandan farmers, ensuring they become self-sufficient and produce not only for domestic use but also for the market.
Mr. Pacifique Ndayishimiye, the Cooperative Advisor at Agriterra Rwanda, also praised the partnership between Agriterra and the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate in the implementation of projects like “Acting Now,” which aim to improve the social welfare of farmers and the broader community.
