Strengthening Farmer Field School Facilitators to Boost Agricultural Productivity

On February 12, 2026, through SCORE Rwanda Project—funded by the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) and supervised by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)—the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate, organized a capacity-building training aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and productivity of Farmer Field School (FFS) Facilitators. The training took place at KIAI Cooperative in Gatsibo District, Eastern Province, and was facilitated by Mr. Jean Claude Bizimana, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Ingabo Farmers’ Syndicate.

The session brought together 21 Farmer Field School Facilitators, including 11 participants from Gatsibo District and 10 from Kayonza District. The training focused on harmonizing facilitation approaches and strengthening facilitators’ capacity to effectively support cooperative members and local farmers.

Key areas covered included the roles and responsibilities of FFS Facilitators, the effective use of Demonstration Plots as practical learning tools, and improvements in the reporting system to enhance monitoring, accountability, and the measurement of field-level results. Participants also shared experiences and discussed practical strategies to strengthen knowledge transfer, farmer participation, and peer learning.

Throughout the training, facilitators were encouraged to embrace innovation, strengthen collaboration with farmers, and adopt best agricultural practices that improve productivity and resilience. Particular emphasis was placed on their role as community role models, promoting sustainable farming practices and inspiring farmers to adopt improved techniques.

This initiative reflects SCORE Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening agricultural extension systems and equipping facilitators with the skills and knowledge needed to drive productivity, sustainability, and farmer prosperity across the Eastern Province.
