Cassava Farmers in Nyamasheke District, Western Province rejoice for SCORE Project

The INGABO Farmers Syndicate is making significant strides in transforming cassava farming in Rwanda through the implementation of the SCORE Rwanda Project. Funded by the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) and supervised by the  International Fund for Agricultural Developemnt ( IFAD), this initiative empowers farmers with innovative solutions to increase productivity and sustainability.

Cassava farmers are now embracing the Zai Pit Technology, a modern soil and water management technique that has proven to enhance crop yields while improving soil fertility. This innovation represents a breakthrough for smallholder farmers who have long faced challenges of low productivity and degraded soils.

The active participation of the INGABO Farmers Syndicate has been central to the success of this initiative. By mobilizing members, facilitating training, and providing field-level guidance, the Syndicate ensures that farmers not only adopt the technology but also optimize its benefits. Farmers report healthier crops, better harvests, and renewed hope for increased income.

Through this collaboration, the SCORE Rwanda Project is demonstrating how farmer-led organizations can play a pivotal role in scaling agricultural innovations. The INGABO Farmers Syndicate continues to lead the way in promoting sustainable practices, strengthening food security, and enhancing livelihoods across Rwanda’s cassava-growing communities.
